Vin Gaeta, Executive Coach at IMPACT, recently coached one of our new clients on how to turn their marketing claims into clear differences they could substantiate against competitors.
That work starts with a business decision: choose a handful of things your ideal customers care deeply about, and build your business around being exceptionally good at them.
That also means deciding where you’re willing to be “good enough,” or even a poor choice, so you can put more focus, time, and resources into what matters most to those customers. If you build your business around extensive personal attention, for example, you may be a poor choice for someone who wants the lowest price.
You can’t possibly be the right fit for everyone.
That was the point of “A Business Worth Choosing,” my talk at Endless Customers Live 2026 in Hartford. Decide where you’ll excel. Build the ability to deliver. Then give people evidence they can trust.
Google’s content guidance reinforces the value of that evidence. It asks for original information, firsthand expertise, and clear sourcing. It identifies trust as the most important element of its experience, expertise, authority, and trust framework. Its guidance for AI Overviews and AI Mode points to those same principles and recommends making important information available in text.
For your business, that means publishing specific strengths and the evidence behind them where buyers and AI search systems can find them. Buyers can check your claims. Search systems have concrete information to retrieve and cite when answering relevant questions.
Here’s how I’d put this into practice:
