Can HubSpot track AI visibility?

HubSpot's AEO tool tracks your AI visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini continuously, using your actual CRM data, and it tells you specifically what content to publish to close the gaps it finds.

What you'll learn:

  • What AEO measures and why a one-time check doesn't tell you much
  • How HubSpot's AEO tool is different from a standalone AI visibility tracker
  • The difference between a citation and a recommendation, and why it matters
  • What recommendations the tool actually gives you, and how to act on them
  • What you need to set up before the tool can help you
  • Which HubSpot plans include it

Clear perspective into AI visibility is one of the most elusive data points for leaders and marketing teams right now. Several tools promise results, but few help you understand how to change those numbers.

And if you're looking at HubSpot as your new CRM or want to get more out of your current setup, there's good news. You don't need another tool or pricey subscription to understand how your brand is performing on major AI platforms.

HubSpot's AEO tool helps businesses write and track critical prompts where you want to be part of the conversation. It gives you valuable recommendations on how to improve your likelihood of being mentioned and gives your marketing team the direction they need to keep your business in front of your audience.

At IMPACT, we coach businesses to become the most known, trusted, and recommended company in their market as part of the Endless Customers System™. That includes using the right tools, like HubSpot CRM, to gain visibility into the sales and marketing actions that drive revenue and results.

This article will dive into just one of the amazing functions inside of HubSpot, the AEO tool, how it works, how to set it up, what it tracks, and what it can't do.

What is AEO, and why are businesses starting to track it?

Answer engine optimization measures whether AI tools mention, cite, or recommend your business, the same way SEO measured whether Google ranked you on page one.

The difference is what you get out of it.

A search ranking earns you a link someone might click. An AI recommendation gets your business named directly, often without the buyer ever clicking through to compare you against anyone else.

Plenty of tools have shown up over the last year or two promising to track this. The problem with most of them isn't accuracy. It's timing.

Why isn't a one-time AEO check enough?

Most AEO tools on the market run a single check and hand you a score: a snapshot of whether you showed up, on that day, against that set of questions.

That's useful information, but it's already out of date by the time you're looking at it. AI visibility is constantly shifting.

A one-time snapshot can tell you where you stood. It can't tell you where you're headed, and it definitely can't tell you what to do next. HubSpot's AEO tool was built to help you do more.

How is HubSpot's AEO tool different from a standalone tracker?

Instead of a single check, HubSpot's AEO tool runs continuously. It tracks a set of prompts, the actual questions your buyers would type into ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini, on an ongoing basis, and shows you how your visibility is trending instead of where it landed once.

It also starts from more context than a standalone tool has access to. Because it lives inside HubSpot, it's built on your actual CRM data: your ideal customer profile, the products and services you sell, and how you've closed deals before.

A standalone AI visibility tool, often running somewhere around $50 a month, can tell you whether you showed up. It has no idea who you sell to or what to tell you to do about it.

What's the difference between a citation and a recommendation?

Really quickly, these two terms get used interchangeably even though they're not the same thing. A citation is when an AI tool pulls your content in as a source, a page it references or links back to while building its answer. A recommendation is a level up from that: the AI actually names your business as the answer, the company it's telling the buyer to go with.

Both matter, and HubSpot's AEO tool gives you insights to both, but recommendations are the ones worth building a strategy around. Getting cited proves your content is good enough to reference. Getting recommended means the AI trusts you enough to put your name on the answer.

Setting up the AEO Tool

If you are just setting up the AEO tool or want to refresh your current dashboard, here's what we recommend:

1. Initial Setup

When you open up the AEO tool, you'll be guided through setup, which should take less than 5 minutes if you already have AI context ready to go.

Currently, you can find "Context Home" inside of the Agent Hub in HubSpot. From there, you can manage things like brand kits, products and services, ideal customer profiles, and personas.

2. Prompt building

You'll have a set number of prompts that you will be able to track. You can generate these with AI inside HubSpot, which can be a helpful starting point, but we recommend that you review each of them and make sure they feel true to your brand and how your buyers might be searching for you.

The AEO tool creates a "bingo card' of sorts that helps you track prompt coverage. You'll be able to see if your prompts cover each ICP and product/service.

3. Track results + implement recommendations

Once the AEO tool has been tracking your prompts for a while, it starts telling you exactly what's missing: a blog post that would close a gap, a comparison page a competitor already has that you don't, an answer to a question that keeps coming up in AI results without your business attached to it.

Because it already knows your ICP, your products and services, and how you talk about your business, you can generate a first draft of that content with AI directly inside HubSpot.

The legwork Breeze needs to write something usable, who you sell to, what you sell, how you sound, is already done. You're not starting from a blank page, and you're not briefing an AI tool from scratch every time.

Free Marketing Assessment: Where do you stand?

AI is changing how buyers find businesses, and most companies are dangerously underprepared. Take this free assessment and find out if yours is at risk of becoming invisible to your buyers.

Do you need a specific HubSpot plan to use it?

The AEO tool lives inside HubSpot Marketing Pro and Marketing Plus. If you're already on one of those tiers, it's likely sitting in your account unused right now.

If you're evaluating HubSpot and weighing it against a standalone AI visibility tool plus whatever CRM you're using today, this is one more thing bundled into the platform instead of purchased and configured separately.

So, does HubSpot help you show up in AI?

Yes, and it does it in a way that's hard to replicate with a standalone tool bolted onto a different CRM. HubSpot's AEO tool tracks your visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini continuously, tells you specifically what's missing, and gives you what you need to fix it without starting from scratch.

What it can't do is act on its own. The tool surfaces the gaps. Someone on your team still has to own turning those gaps into published content, the same way any other channel that drives revenue needs an owner, not just a dashboard.

If you're already on HubSpot and haven't turned this on, or you're still deciding whether HubSpot is the right platform, IMPACT's HubSpot training team can walk you through what it actually takes to get value out of it, not just switch it on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does AEO replace traditional SEO?

No. AEO and SEO support different parts of how buyers discover your business. SEO helps your website appear in search results, while AEO increases the likelihood that AI platforms will cite your content or recommend your company in a generated answer.

Many of the fundamentals overlap. Clear answers, credible expertise, strong website content, customer proof, and consistent information across the web help both search engines and AI platforms understand your business. Companies should treat AEO as an expansion of their organic visibility strategy, not a replacement for SEO.

Which prompts should your business track?

Track prompts that reflect the real questions buyers ask while researching a problem, comparing solutions, or deciding whom to trust. These might include questions about the best providers in your market, the cost of your service, comparisons between available approaches, or which solution is best for a particular company or situation.

Start with prompts connected to your ideal customers and highest-priority products or services. Your sales conversations, website search data, customer interviews, and frequently asked questions are often better sources than a generic list generated by AI. The goal is to monitor questions that could genuinely influence a buying decision.

How accurate is AI visibility tracking?

AI visibility data should be treated as directional rather than absolute. Answers can change based on the AI platform, model version, prompt wording, location, personalization, and the sources available when the question is asked. A business may appear in one response and be absent from another version of the same query.

That variability is why trends are more useful than individual results. Tracking the same high-value prompts over time can show whether your brand is gaining visibility, earning more citations, and appearing alongside the competitors you expect. A single result is a snapshot; repeated tracking reveals the larger pattern.
