6 Tools That Reveal Why Your Users Abandon Your Website

You’ve figured out all the best ways to get people to come to your sites, and better yet, they are the people you want to work with.

Despite your steady traffic, visitors are still dropping off your site. Some bounce the second they get there, and others are almost at the point of purchasing your product before they leave.

Unfortunately, this is all too common of an issue many tend to face. Visitors leave without us knowing what they wanted and you are left to guess how to persuade them to come back.

On average, 96% of people who visit a website will leave without becoming a lead or converting. Some of these people aren’t looking to convert at all or simply landed on your site looking to gain some information.

While this may be the case, there is still the opportunity to nurture some of these people into potential customers. This can be done by tracking how they interact with your site, gaining feedback, re-engagement campaigns, etc.

Luckily, it is possible to understand what’s going though your users’ mind. Check out these six powerful tools that have been proven to bring your visitors back, put more dollars in your pocket, and keep you on top of their actions.

1. Hotjar

Hotjar is an exceptional all-in-one heatmaps and feedback tool that helps measure your users’ engagement.

Hotjar’s heatmaps provide information that details where users are clicking, scrolling, and even moving their mouse on your pages. This gives you a visual understanding of how users are interacting with your pages, if they are clicking in the right place, what’s getting the most attention, and where users are dropping off.

Hotjar even offers an article detailing 8 metrics that can be measured using there heatmaps tool. This data can be used to dissect your pages and understand where their weak points may lie.

You can also construct funnels that map the path your users take until they arrive at a conversion point (signup page, consultation). Hotjar will show you at what pages your users drop off and the percentage of them that do.

For those pages you are getting high abandonment on, you can use your polling tool to reach out to your users and get feedback to see what they are thinking.

Clicktale is similar to Hotjar in that it also has the ability to track user movement and display the result in using types of heatmaps. Although, Clicktale offers a slightly different set of tools.

Clicktale incorporates a more robust set of tools to track specific web analytics ranging from conversion areas, drop off points, and conversion funnels. There, analytics will be able to tell you not only whether or not users are dropping off your pages, but also if they are interacting with the pages, unsuccessfully submitting your forms, and where they go when they leave.

The software also gets into the nitty gritty of your form and analyzes whether or not all your form fields are necessary or not and what fields they are spending the most time on.  It even pinpoints what fields visitors are filling out incorrectly the most.

3. iPerceptions

iPerceptions is a metrics platform that helps businesses increase sales via their popular VoC (Voice of Customer) survey feature. This can be embedded within any page of your site. VoC allows website visitors to send comments, thoughts, or reactions strait to your company's management.

Rather than simply asking a stagnant set of questions, you have the ability to have certain questions displayed based upon what's been previously answered.

The software also integrates with Google analytics to give you a more comprehensive understanding of your visitors overall experience and satisfaction to help you improve your site.

4. Olark

For some of us, surveys don't allow us to get personal enough. Instead, we want to have the ability to talk to our users one-on-one.

Olark provides a variety of customization options for their chat boxes to match your website's theme. While high end customization may require CSS, you are easily able to change the color of the chat font, chat window position, and window size.

The chat platform also allows you to monitor leads create and find opportunities and deliver support to clients if they are experiencing a problem. The software also provides valuable information on your users individually, such as their name, email id, browsing patterns and pages they have visited on your site.

UserTesting gives companies a chance for users to interact on their website while they voice their opinions in a complete video recording.

The company has access to over a million people in their database allowing them to segment the ones that fit your target audience. You can even use your own users if you already have a group that fits your ideal buyer personas.

The videos show how users interpret your website based upon tasks they are given to be completed. The software will even identify tasks that were difficult to complete and points to where they had trouble in each video. You can even have them test competitors’ websites for a chance to compare their UX against yours and understand where one another's weaknesses lie.

6. Bounce Exchange

If you aren’t looking to interact with your users on a personal basis and are instead just trying to think of ways to keep your current users engaged, maybe implementing some exit-intent popups is your best bet.

This is where Bounce Exchange comes in, their software enables you to add popups to pages that will trigger when users are mousing outside of the website and towards the browser ‘x’ (hence exit-intent).

Although pop-ups tend to have a bad sigma, research shows they typically increase conversions rates as long as they are used strategically rather than sporadically and often.

Bounce Exchange’s dashboard allows you to analyze visitor behavior, purchase history, and traffic sources.
