We’ve all wondered exactly what we should be doing to get our On-Page SEO fully optimized. It can be a very frustrating and daunting task to revamp your pages descriptions, content, and images so that you are ready to battle for high
search engine rankings. Don’t worry though, by utilizing the HubSpot Page Performance Tool you can get all of your pages 100% ready with this on-page SEO checklist. Are you ready? I certainly hope so.
On-Page SEO Checklist
As we discussed in my previous post (Check it out!) the Page Performance Tool that HubSpot supplies is phenomenal for making sure your pages are up to snuff with SEO. They give you a detailed breakdown of what you’re doing wrong, what you can do to fix it, and when you have everything squared away. Now it’s time to go a little more in-depth with how to get your on-page SEO where you need and want it to be. Without further ado (fancy right?) let’s jump into the On-Page SEO Checklist!
Check Titles
Having a strong page title is very important. You can optimize the title tag by adding focus keywords to the beginning of it. Two of the most important things in regards to the title tag is to make sure that it is unique, and does not go over 70 characters.
Check Meta Descriptions
Your page's meta description is what users will see in the search engines. It should be very clear, concise, and illustrate exactly what information is on the page. Of course, you'll also want to have keywords for that page in the meta description. This is the On-Page SEO Checklist after all.
Optimize Header Tags
Using header tags is one of the most important parts of the On-Page SEO Checklist. There should always be one H1 tag on your page, and it should have the focus keyword inside of it. For instance if your page is about moving services, your H1 should be something like "Moving Services in NY". Now you have keywords, location, and an H1, the search engines are going to love you. But make sure that there is one, and only one H1. Everything else heading wise on the page should be an H2 and so on.
Check Image Alt Tags
One of the most common things to forget on the On-Page SEO Checklist is Image Alt Tags. By adding an optimized alt tag to your images that includes keywords you can boost your On-Page SEO easily and quickly. You'll also want to make sure you don't have too many images on the page, but that shouldn't be a problem when you're writing such amazing content. Right
Optimize Link Anchor Text
Making sure that you use the correct words in your anchor text is very important. Too few and it won't make a difference, too many and you'll have a giant blob of linked text on your page. You should usually shoot for 3-4 words that explain exactly where the link is going to take the user. It's even better if you get keywords in it!
HubSpot Tracking Code & CTA's
Part of the Page Performance Tool's On-Page SEO also includes the HubSpot Tracking Code and CTA Code. While this will only apply if you're using the HubSpot software, which I highly recommend you do (Get a Free Trial here), it is important to utilize some form of tracking and call to action on your pages. Even if it's a simple graphic that links to a contact page, it's important to gather your user's information. Using a tracking code, like Google Analytics, will also benefit you and show you what keywords people are going to your pages for.
Inbound Links
Getting inbound links to your pages are crucial for increasing your SEO. Search Engines use these Inbound links to determine your site and page importance, ranking, and popularity. The more Inbound links you have, the better your ranking and more popular you are. Creating shareable content is a great way to get inbound links. Calls-to-Action with the HubSpot Page Performance Tool
As I mentioned above, utilizing Calls-to-Action are critical for capturing leads and getting their information. The pages they link to are also shareable, and will help with those inbound links we just discussed (you're following along right?). You want to have a variety of CTA's on the page to capture Top of the Funnel, Middle of the Funnel and Bottom of the Funnel leads. The HubSpot Page Performance Tool will actually track and log stats for all of the CTA's on the page so you can see what is working and what isn't.
Social Media
The Page Performance Tool tracks how many times each individual page has been shared on different social media. This is important for your page's SEO because the more it is shared, the more likely you will receive new visitors to that page. You made sure your content was share worthy right?
Now that you've got all the tools you need from this On-Page SEO Checklist you're ready to turn your website into a high ranking, lead generating machine. So start making those changes, optimizing those titles, descriptions, and alt tags, and remember, if you run into trouble or need any help, we're always here to help (Shameless Plug).
