Welcome back Nick! Inbound in the Trenches (The IMPACT Show Ep. 43)
Mar 16, 2018
In this week's episode of The IMPACT Show, the boys were back in town! That's right, this episode included both Bob and Nick along with me.
Just in case you missed us live (or if you want to relive the magic), you’ll find the episode’s show notes below as well as the recording.
Enjoy and make sure to share!

IMPACT Updates
Nick is back from paternity leave and Bob is back after missing a few weeks. Bob shared some thoughts about our vision for the IMPACT show and why we were all on this episode. Our team is growing and Bob shared how he understands that all these amazing people have personal brands and need an outlet to share content. We have many great people with great shows and who are producing great content.
While the IMPACT Show was originally planned as a 24 episode run we're at nearly twice that now and we're so excited to keep it going! Nick and I have some exciting plans for the future and can't wait to do more episodes of the show.
IMPACT All Hands Meeting
We shared some updates from our all hands meeting which is our monthly 2 hour all-company meeting. We also talked about how great it was that the company shared a survey after the meeting asking for feedback from everyone. I shared how I spent a lot of time filling out the survey specifically because they took enough time to set up a detailed survey so I took the time to fill it out. Bob shared how he has made some changes based on some of the feedback they have received in the past.
HUGGIN' it Out with HubSpot User Groups
We have so many great HUG events coming up! IMPACTers are part of many of them - have you checked out your local HUG? IMPACTer Liz Murphy spoke at the Annapolis, MD HUG on Wednesday. Plus, the Chicago, IL and the New Haven and Wallingford, CT HUG meetups are coming up at the end of March!
Leadership Walkin' the Video Walk
We also wanted to share how IMPACT's COO Chris Duprey did a video recently. The content of the video was great but so was the fact that Chris led by example by jumping in and doing a video even though he's not a marketer or typically in front of the camera. And he did a great job!
What Marketers Be Talkin' 'Bout
Where we go over what you're saying in IMPACT Elite.

Elite member Lauren Lokker shared a post about 7 soft skills inbound marketers need.
First, I want to note that this was just a link but after a few comments Lauren updated the post with some great context:
"We took a poll in our office to come up with a list of soft skills that every inbound marketer needs to be successful, which resulted in this blog post. I'd love to know if other inbound marketers find the same skills useful, or if there are additional skills that should be added to the list? 😁"
Share your thoughts on these soft skills in Elite!
So what else is happening in Elite?
Elite member Jennifer Goode posted: "We have a vendor partner that we are launching a brand new HubSpot website for who is nice enough to allow us to add this to the footer of their website: "This site is designed and developed by Enrollment Builders" What is the best way to write and link this text back to our site to get maximum traction from this placement? We have the same target personas but sell different services/solutions."
I loved seeing the responses to this in Elite and all the people jumping in with their feedback. Check out the discussion.
Elite Member Highlight!
I want to start giving a special shout out to Elite members who catch my eye each week. This week it was Jason Petefish (JP) who has been so great in the group. What specifically caught my eye was his response on a post that said: "I did learn something! This group allows for imperfection [...] and I took a risk." There was a little more to it but the important part is that JP did take a risk and learned from the group and I love that! Keep it up, JP.
Digital Marketing News
Where each week, we share one thing from the world of digital marketing that caught our eye.
This week we decided to talk a little more "in the trenches" and share what we’ve been working on, struggling with, or learned from our real-world work and day to day experiences.
Nick Emceed the Peep Laja Webinar
Nick shared how he had some great learnings from our recent webinar with Peep Laja on persuasive web design. You can check out the recording here if you missed it.
I also talked about how we're reworking some of our segmented lists to be more data-backed in terms of the criteria that builds them. Lots going on here at IMPACT and I'm really enjoying diving into my new role. There is so much to learn.
Hootsuite: Old School Marketing Tactics
I shared how this article caught my eye because there are some tactics considered "old school" that should actually be called timeless classics. The first one on this list is doing your research and that's been so vital to me lately as I'm learning more about our group and communities in general.
