What is Evergreen Content and Why Do You Need It?

What is Evergreen Content and Why Do You Need It?

Evergreen ContentEver get annoyed by website updates? You've just spent all this time writing content for your website and blog, and you have to update it a few months later!

Well, to combat this tedious process, many companies are producing evergreen content in order to keep their content up to date for longer. Evergreen content is a great way to effectively market your website content, without having to update it every month. Many industries are constantly changing, and along with this, companies are adapting to the new industry standards. It can be extremely frustrating, which is why evergreen content is such an efficient way to market your content, all while saving time and hassle.

Well what really is evergreen content? Not to fear, this post will explain exactly what evergreen content is and how it can improve your marketing for the long run.

IMPACT's team of skilled writers can help your company get started with your content marketing. Contact us to get started!

What is Evergreen Content?

In simplistic terms, Evergreen Content is content that doesn't expire. It will always be industry related, and always up to date, and it can last for years. Yes it may sound too good to be true, but imagine not having to update the content on your website for a year? How about two? Now you could easily just stop writing content for your site, but with evergreen content, your site is "ever green" and you won't have to sacrifice your marketing or SEO efforts for a break from your website updates. Genius right?

Content that Lasts? How Does this Work?

Well, it's all about knowing your industry, and knowing who you are as a company. Your evergreen content is written so that it drives traffic to your website for a long period of time. Sometimes, your website is geared to a more historical standpoint, so this content will probably need little to no updating throughout the life of your site.

If you are writing about tax tips and how to file your tax returns, this information will need to updated pretty regularly as tax laws and rates change. So evergreen content wouldn't be effective in this situation. Your company's "about us" page should roughly be historical and about your company history, so this page contains evergreen content. You may wish to rewrite this page, but the information will most likely remain the same as your company progresses.

More examples of evergreen content are informational pieces, such as how to organize your garage. This information is unlikely to change, unless there is some new super garage that can organize itself that I don't know about.

So I Need Old Information to Have Evergreen Content?

Not necessarily. Current events can be considered evergreen content and they don't have to updated as often as you may think. If you're selling the first version of some jetpack you just invented, the information is the same about this jetpack, no matter when the 2.0 and 3.0 versions come out. Even with your newer models, your original jetpack will still be the same, making this evergreen content.

Your company is always changing and adapting to your industry. But this doesn't mean that your content needs to! Save time and energy by utilizing evergreen content in your marketing!

Has anyone utilized evergreen content in your marketing before? How has it simplified your website updates?
