Why You Need to Attend ConversionXL Live-- From Peep Laja Himself [Interview]
By Bob Ruffolo
Mar 1, 2017
I go to a lot of marketing conferences and one of my favorites in 2016 was ConversionXL Live (CXL).
I loved it so much, this year, I’m bringing even more people. (Want to hang out with us there? Get your tickets here.)
But anyway -- Unlike other marketing events I’ve been to, ConversionXL Live is extremely hands-on and includes hotel and meals so attendees are always together; going through the full experience as a group.
This format allows you to have a lot more opportunities to engage with peers as well speakers, which is how I met Peep Laja, Principal of ConversionXL.
I’ve always been super impressed with how smart he is, but meeting him just instilled this for me. Since then, he’s been a featured guest (and definitely a memorable one) on Website Throwdown and we’ve looked up to the model of his organization a great deal.
Since I’m such a big fan boy of his and ConversionXL Live, I thought I’d interview Peep and have him tell you himself why every digital marketer should attend:
“Last year's CXL was great. What's going to be different or better this year?
We have all new lineup, more speakers, all still hand-picked practitioners. This year we have more time for breaks and networking, and all new location to keep things interesting for repeat attendees.
Looks like most of the speakers this year will be different from last year, except for Joanne Wiebe and Joel Harvey, why did you bring them back two years in a row?
Last year Joanna Wiebe was on a panel, and she was amazing. I wanted her to do a full solo session, and luckily she said yes!
Joel Harvey is in my hometown of Austin, so I hear about all the cool stuff he's working on. Recently, I got so excited about some of the things he's learned and I wanted the attendees to get all his eCommerce insights.
What speaker are you most excited to see?
I'm personally very excited to see Andrew Anderson and Guillaume Cabane who are working amazing things; Eager to learn from them.
What would you say to someone who hasn't attended CXL yet?
Have you been to an event you liked? Great! Now come experience an event where we go all-out on providing a great user experience. All the attendees staying together for three days is magic.
What's your vision for this conference 5 years from now?
The feedback from the event is so good, each year I'm wondering how to expose more people to it. So, we're probably going to get bigger.
Since we have a large audience of HubSpot users: What are some of the key things that you think someone using HubSpot can learn from this event?
HubSpot users want measurable results and that is what the event is all about. We have data-driven design and UX, digital analytics, conversion optimization, A/B testing, personalization, and growth topics. All of it is highly relevant.
How do you see your content being different from what someone might learn at INBOUND?
At INBOUND, with so many speakers, it’s hard to know which ones are good. There's little speaker curation, anyone can apply to speak; Lots of great presentations, but also a lot of mediocre ones.
I was sad at last INBOUND. There were massive tech problems for a lot of speakers including me, very little community building efforts, so many people, yet most were so alone.
There were huge long lunch lines and then people sat separately, eating their sandwiches. There was very little value given for their money.
CXL Live is like the opposite -- It's intimate, it's inclusive, it's carefully considered, and very generous.”
Having been to ConversionXL Live, I can safely say the value you’ll get at this event as a digital marketer is unmatched.
In addition to the insights, the people you’ll meet, learn from, and bond with are some of the most brilliant marketing minds you’ll meet.
So, don’t wait. You can buy tickets for CXL Live here, and I’ll see you there.
